FEA (Finite Element Analysis)

FEA is a set of calculations in the form of a mesh giving in 3d space replicating a force or forces so as to predict its reaction to the afore mentioned force. In this instance to achieve a mesh it is created from a 3D solid model and is used to determine the stress, strain, deflection, expansion, flow etc. of the given article. This can be the deflection on a beam with a given mass, strength of a boat hull at speed, Strain on a lifting eye, turbulence on a turbine blade etc.

FEA simulates forces and gives you a chance to test your product before production of a Prototype ever starts.

This a generic hydraulic calliper displaying heat loading and pressures in an exaggerated form showing how best the unit should be strengthened and modified during development.
